In General

A stylish and stunning set of 6 (4+2) Mahogany Hepplewhite style dining chairs circa 1900. The chairs are in excellent condition and feature the famous Hepplewhite style shield back with a pierced and shaped central back splat with finely carved detail of a sheaf of corn on each chair. The carver chairs have shaped arms and shaped supports. These chairs are raised upon reeded tapering legs with an ‘H’ frame for extra strength. The chairs are upholstered in a striking rose pink velvet Regency striped upholstery fabric which is in excellent condition. The seats are drop in and thus removeable which makes re-upholstery far easier and more cost effective. The chairs were probably re-upholstered in the 1980s.

This excellent set of antique Mahogany Hepplewhite dining chairs retain their original finish, colour and patina and all in wonderful condition throughout and ready to place in a period or contemporary interior.

Hepplewhite style is synonymous with elegant and refined design, a much loved style that originated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a tribute to the famous English cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite. Hepplewhite’s designs from the late 18th century were defined by delightful proportions, graceful curving lines and sophisticated detailing.

Material

Solid Mahogany with upholstered drop in seats in a Regency velvet stripe. The velvet stripe is in a rose pink colour.

Condition

In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is two scuff marks on the base of the shield back on one of the chairs. There are some pulled threads on the upholstery on the front corners of the chairs. Please see photographs.
