Vincent Bennett originally trained at the Plymouth School of Art in 1920s alongside James Henry Cecil Collins (1908 – 1989) MBE who was an English Painter and printmaker originally associated with the Surrealist Movement with work held in the Tate. Following a move to London in 1930 he concentrated on scenery painting and also took part in in the occasional boxing match! Two years later he returned to Plymouth – painting murals around the City as well as establishing himself as a jazz drummer! In 1945 he married Mary Hemmingway who actively encouraged and facilitated his artistic career. We love their funky fashions – chequered pink jacket with yellow lapels and a red sash with two tone “Gatsby” brogue shoes and a pink stripey pullover with a yellow stripey scarf!
