Internationally famous English ceramic artist and designer, Clarice Cliff – Large ‘Love Birds’ Vase c.1937-1948. A stunning and perfect example of a large, Clarice Cliff, ribbed vase, decorated with two beautiful and highly colourful ‘Love Birds’ surrounded by leaves and foliage. A wonderful piece of Clarice Cliff dated 1937-1948.

This beautifully designed, top quality, ceramic, ribbed vase is decorated with delicately modelled ‘Love Birds’, leaves and foliage. It is extremely tactile given its ribbed design and wonderful highly detailed workmanship in relief.

Clarice Cliff is regarded as one of the most influential ceramics artists of the 20th Century and her work is collected the world over. Born on 30th January,1899 in Tunstall, Stoke-On-Trent, Clarice Cliff started work at the young age of 13 in ‘The Potteries’. Clarice then moved to AJ Wilkinson’s Pottery factory in 1916. As a highly gifted designer she was eventually give her own design studio. It was here that she created her own world famous distinctive and colour-rich patterns including ‘Bizarre- Wares’, launched in 1927. She also studied at the Royal College of Art and spent time in Paris gaining artistic inspiration. Clarice Cliff is one of the UK’s most prolific and important ceramicists and her work is now highly sought after and collectable.

Condition

In perfect condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is a slight and very small sliver of missing pottery on the underside footer. Please see photographs.
