Comprising a five rung high ladderback armchair with a double box stretcher which is not narrowed at the ends, it has small rounded feet on the front legs, stepped decoration on the tops of the front legs and finials all as per Philip Clissett’s classic original Arts and Crafts design.
The wonderful turned arm supports are influenced by the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements. The highback, with very pretty acorn shaped finials was influenced by the stunning Shaker Chairs of the 19th Century. The high ladderbacks are also of the English Arts and Crafts style of chairs of the time. Ladderback chairs were influenced by the architect James MacLaren and became popular amongst the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Its stunning “modern” Arts and Crafts design will work well in contemporary as well as period interiors.
