Swedish Gustavsberg Reptil Pattern Stoneware Pottery by the acclaimed Stig Lindberg comprising a slender vase. This piece is from a series produced between 1953 and 1963.
Stig Lindberg (1916 - 1982) was one of Sweden's most important post war designers. He was prolific being not only a ceramic designer but also a glass, textile and industrial designer as well as a painter and illustrator. Stig Lindberg started his career in 1937 at Gustavsberg, the renowned Swedish porcelain company - which originated in 1826 - where he created stunning studio ceramics during a long career. Stig Lindberg achieved fame for his eccentric forms and whimsical designs.
This iconic slender vase with a somewhat asymmetric shape has the relief scale pattern in a gloss pale greeny grey glaze. This piece was designed as part of the famous Reptil series by Stig Lindberg and produced between 1953 and 1963 by Gustavsberg. The relief scale pattern gives the vase a wonderfully tactile feel. This piece works well in a minimalistic setting or as part of a larger Scandanavian modern pottery collection.
The vase is in excellent condition with no defects from use apart from very slight marking on the underside of the vase as shown in the photographs.
