A rare and elegant pair of hand painted antique Staffordshire bisque porcelain recumbent Whippets circa 1890. The figurines are decorated in the round.
Bisque Porcelain is unglazed white porcelain. It has a matte appearance and texture to the touch. It was first used at Vincennes Porcelain in 1751 by Jean Jacques Bachelier. Bisque porcelain is made to a higher standard as imperfections cannot be hidden in the glaze. Therefore bisque porcelain pieces were more expensive.
Overall in good antique condition. There are some tiny pin point surface dinks in the porcelain which are likely to be due to the original manufacturing process. The RHS dog has a poorly restored nose. There is also a a hair line crack running down from this dog's collar. The LHS dog has no restoration albeit the black paint on its nose has a small rub. Please see photographs.
